Downhill Bikes

Downhill Bikes

Downhill bikes are mountain bikes made for one thing, and one thing only: Going down hill as fast as possible. They're the dirt-bike-like bikes you'll see flying off giant jumps at big races like the Red Bull Rampage. If that's your style, there's no other type of bike for you.

Downhill bikes are designed to be ridden at bike parks, shuttle runs, or in downhill racing. They feature highly specialized geometry and components that prioritize stability and impact absorption at high speeds over pretty much everything else. Their frames are robust and paired with up to 200mm of suspension travel front and rear. Slack head tube angles and longer wheelbases provide exceptional control. The "we're going down, not up" mentality is easy to spot in the dual-crown front forks as well, which make the bikes a lot more robust and stable on landings.

These bikes definitely aren't ideal for climbing or long rides on flat terrain. In fact, to get uphill it's a good idea to use a shuttle or chairlift.
