The world's first race-specific electric mountain bike.

This bike took five years of intense development, so you know it was perfected in every way. The new Sixfinity suspension was made for the demands of an e-MTB, bringing unprecedented tunability, speed and performance. It can do things that a pedal bike can't.

The anti-squat value is also lower than other Yetis. That's for greater acceleration and higher speed hits. We can't forget about the motor and battery. They deliver a consistent power attack on any terrain. The 160E is for more personal bests, wins, and championship titles.

Frequently Asked Questions

2022 Yeti 160E

  • What's Sixfinity technology?

It's like Switch Infinity, but with intentional variations that account for the drive unit and battery. The lower Switch link moves upward, then travels downward as the suspension moves from extended to compressed states. Then you get an anti-squat profile similar to Switch Infinity. But there's a drive unit assist, so the magnitude of the profile is reduced to bias the acceleration response towards increased traction.

  • Does Sixfinity require any maintenance?

You should check the system for loose bolts once a month. Bearing service intervals vary depending on climate, trail conditions, and how often you ride. Consult your user manual or contact your Yeti dealer for more information and maintenance tips.

  • What travel fork is this bike made to use?

170mm travel fork. You can run a 190mm fork. It will slacken the head and seat tube angles and raise the bottom bracket. You can also run a shorter fork. It will steepen the head and seat tube angles and lower the bottom bracket.

  • What's the maximum tire size for this bike?

Up to 2.6". It has great tire clearance but sizes vary by manufacturers, so there's no number that works for all brands.

  • What size rotor fits on the frame?

220mm rotor with a brake adaptor, 180mm rotor without.

  • What cranks and bottom bracket can I use?

This bike has an EP8 drive unit, which replaces the BB interface. The crank spindle is built into the drive unit. All you have to do is bolt on any Shimano EP8 compatible crank arm.

  • What rear axle fits on this bike?

SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger at 12x148mm spacing. This axle is only compatible with frames designed with the Universal Derailleur Hanger.

  • What type of headset does this bike use?

Integrated 41mm/52mm tapered headset. The bearings are contained in the head tube. Giving you a lower ride height, more stiffness, and easier installation.

  • Can I use an angleset on this bike?

It's made with an integrated headset with the cups molded into the frame. So you can easily drop the bearings into the cups. There are some aftermarket anglesets for this style headset. But the frame was not tested for these, so they shouldn't be used.

  • Can I run a stealth seat post dropper on this bike?

Yes, it has routing options for stealth only.

  • What is the largest single-chainring I can use?

    34t round ring.

  • What chainline was this bike made around?

    53mm boost chainline.

  • Does this bike have ISCG mounts?

No, it has a custom top guide mount that works with the OneUp top guide.

  • What type of shock does this bike use?

205x65mm Trunnion shock. It can be locked out, but Yeti recommends running it fully open for the best compliance and traction.

  • What type of shock hardware does this bike use?

Custom hardware on both sides. The lower shock hardware spacing is M8x43.69mm. It's adjustable so you can rune the leverage rate to suit your riding style or the terrain you're riding. Check your owners manual for more information.

  • Can I put a coil shock on this bike?

Yes, it's compatible with air and coil-sprung shocks.

  • Can I run a SRAM drivetrain with the Shimano motor?

This bike is fully compatible with SRAM drivetrains. You have to use the stock Shimano chainring spider that comes on the bike. It's designed to interface with the EP8 drive unit spindle. So all you have to do is remove the chainring bolts and replace the chainring with a SRAM 104 BCD 34 tooth chainring. You don't have to replace the crankarms. But you should replace the complete drivetrain, including derailleur, shifter, cassette, chain, and chainring.

  • Can I run a dual crown fork?

Yes, the maximum recommended fork travel is 190mm.

  • What's the recommended sag?

Start with 30% sag or 19.5mm of shock stroke for optimal pedaling efficiency and terrain compliance. You can also go slightly above or below that amount to suit your preference. Be sure to set it at your normal riding weight, gear included.

  • What size seat post does this bike use?

    31.6mm seat post.

  • What size seat collar does this bike use?

    36.4mm seat collar.

  • What headset top cap does this bike use?

51mm top cap rather than the standard cap diameter. That's because it was tested to Yeti's more rigorous DH test standards, which require a larger HT wall thickness.

  • What is the longest travel dropper post I can run?

It depends on your inseam. You can run any travel as long as you're above the minimum insert mark, your tires don't rub on your saddle, and your dropper doesn't bottom out in the frame. low your tire rubs on your saddle. Yeti runs 125mm drop on XS/SM frames, 150mm drop on MD, and 175mm drop on LG/XL.

  • Should I adjust the leverage rate of this bike?

It depends on the terrain, your riding style, and personal preference. You should experiment to see what works best for you. The stock setting is 30%, and that's a great place to start.

  • Can I make this a mullet bike with a 27.5" rear wheel?

It's possible but not recommended. It would lower your BB too much and slacken your head tube angle and seat tube angle. If those changes suit your ride style, then you can do it.

  • What's the battery range?

The maximum capacity is 630 watt hours. But it depends on your weight, location, gradient, selected mode, ambient temperature, and more. The range function on the display will give you the best estimate

  • Can I run a different size battery?

No, this bike is only compatible with the BT-E8036 Shimano 630Wh battery.

  • Can I ride without a battery?

No, the downtube cover is attached to the battery. Without it, the internal frame and electrical components will be damaged by the elements.

  • How do I get a spare battery?

Directly from Shimano. You can also buy battery covers on the Yeti website or at your local Yeti dealer.

  • What if I lose battery power while riding?

You can pedal without the battery or motor. The loss of power might not be from a depleted battery. Try turning it off and back on. If the problem persists, contact Yeti customer service.

  • How do I dispose of the battery?

Don't throw it away with your other garbage. Check the manual or contact your Yeti dealer for proper disposal.
