Santa Cruz's first lightweight e-MTB.

Santa Cruz is making leaps and bounds in the advancement of e-MTBs as proven by its newest bike, the 2024 Heckler SL. It's an even more powerful, versatile, and adventure-ready version of the Heckler. You get assistance from a Fazua Ride 60 motor and a 430Wh battery - a dynamic duo to boost you over hills and along the toughest trails you can imagine.

There are three power settings to choose the exact amount of boost you want. This is also still a highly capable mountain bike, with a 160mm fork, 150mm rear travel, and a mixed wheel set-up built around Santa Cruz's own VPP suspension. Frames are available in C and CC carbon. The Heckler SL is ready for hours of punishment - and always coming out stronger than ever.

Small to XXL sizes cater to any rider height. The Heckler SL also comes in five different build kits, from the base R to the fully equipped XX AXS RSV. All in all, the Heckler is a trail machine with an enduro-inspired geometry. It's capable and ready for anything you want to achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

2024 Santa Cruz Heckler SL

  • Can I put a 27.5" front wheel on this bike?

No, the bike is made specifically for MX wheels. A 27.5" front wheel would negatively affect the geometry.

  • Why MX (mixed) wheels?

MX wheels give you the stability and traction of a 29" front wheel and the agility of a 27.5" rear wheel. The smaller rear wheel has a lower axle height so you can more easily unweight the front wheel. That means confident and agile handling on steep descents. The drive unit also propells the rear wheel over rough terrain with no hang ups or lost momentum.

  • Do all sizes use MX wheels?

    Yes, all sizes and builds.

  • I'm used to a 27.5" bike. What will feel different on MX?

An MX bike handles differently than a 27.5" bike. It mainly feels more stable and confident in the front end. Turning is slower, but it feels more secure in corners, and you get more traction. There's a taller front axle height and improved rollover from the 29" back wheel. Lessening your chances of stuffing the front wheel or being sent over the handlebars. Use these features to ride on more challenging terrain with a more dynamic body position.

  • I'm used to a 29" bike. What will feel different on MX?

A 29" bike has a ton of front wheel grip from the front wheel. Also from the axle height of the rear wheel, which keeps the front end of the bike weighted. These features give you a more natural riding position on lower-angle terrain, but you have to make adjustments for rearward bias. An MX bike has more rearward bias for a natural feel on steep descents. But you have to make adjustments for balance on flatter terrain. A lower handlebar, a more forward-biased suspension, and a Hi BB setting will make an MX feel like a 29er.

  • What's the recommended fork offset?

The bike is optimized for a 44mm fork offset.

  • What is the crank arm Q-Factor?

    178mm.

  • There are different chainstay lengths for each size. Can I use a different swingarm to customize my bike length?

The change in chainstay length happens in the front triangles. The pivot locations vary fore and aft to achieve the different lengths with a single size swingarm. No, you can't get the chainstay length of small on large, medium on extra-large, etc.

  • What are the largest and smallest rear rotors that fit on this bike?

Largest rotor diameter is 223mm and smallest is 200mm.

  • Does this bike have a throttle?

    No, it's pedal assist only.

  • What's the maximum assisted speed?

The bike has a max speed of 29mph/32kph in North America and 25kph in Europe and most other countries.

  • What cranks fit on the Fazua Ride 60 motor?

It uses cranks with an ETOR spindle interface.

  • What can I do in the Fazua app?

It connects your bike through Bluetooth so you can view live riding data. Like power output and battery percentage. You can also choose different assist modes, download new riding profiles, and update the Fazua system firmware.

  • Do I have to use the Fazua app?

No, the bike is pre-programmed and works without it, but it's incredibly convenient.

  • How do I update the Fazua firmware?

Updates can be installed through the Fazua app or consumer Fazua Toolbox desktop software. Or at a Santa Cruz Bicycles dealer.

  • Can I take the battery off the bike to charge it?

No, the battery is made to be charges in the frame. You can only remove it for service.

  • Can I power a headlight and tail light from the battery?

Yes, you just need lights with a Fazua style power cord. A dealer can help you install them.

  • Can I power my phone or other device with the USB-C port on the LED Hub?

    Yes.
