2023 Yeti SB120 Overview
The 2023 Yeti SB120 is the latest iteration of Yeti's renowned trail bike series. It's a lower-travel model than the SB140, which is also primarily a trail bike. Built for both seasoned riders and newcomers, the SB120 offers exceptional handling while maintaining Yeti's signature lightweight construction and precision geometry.
2023 Yeti SB120 Geometry and Frame Design
The geometry of the 2023 Yeti SB120 is meticulously designed for optimal performance on a range of trails. Featuring a balanced head tube angle of 66.5° across all sizes (XS-XXL), the bike offers stability and control during descents while still being nimble on technical climbs. Its reach increases progressively from 395mm in the XS frame to 515mm in the XXL, ensuring a proper fit for riders of all sizes. The steep 76.5° effective seat tube angle enhances pedaling efficiency, making the SB120 a responsive climber.
The bike's chainstay length increases incrementally with each size, from 433mm on the XS to 443mm on the XXL, which helps maintain a balanced ride feel across all frame sizes. The short seat tube lengths (ranging from 345mm to 485mm) allow for greater dropper post clearance, adding to the bike's versatility on steep descents. With a wheelbase that stretches from 1122mm to 1274mm depending on the frame size, the SB120 is designed for stability without sacrificing agility.
Performance: How the 2023 Yeti SB120 Handles Different Terrain
The 2023 Yeti SB120 excels across diverse terrain, providing a balanced performance whether you're climbing, cruising along flowy singletrack, or tackling technical descents. The bike’s 130mm front suspension combined with its efficient pedaling geometry makes it highly capable uphill without compromising downhill control. It's ideal for trail riders who need a versatile machine that can handle anything the trail throws at it.
Suspension System
The 2023 Yeti SB120 features top-of-the-line suspension components across its build kits. Equipped with a FOX 34 fork with 130mm of travel and paired with a FOX Float DPS rear shock, the SB120 offers the perfect balance between plushness and support for a do-it-all trail bike. The suspension is fine-tuned for absorbing both small bumps and larger impacts, giving riders confidence on technical trails. The GRIP2 and FIT4 dampers (depending on the build) allow for extensive tuning, ensuring that each rider can find their ideal suspension setup for various trail conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
2023 Yeti SB120
-
What's the difference between the TURQ and Carbon Series SB120?
TURQ Series bikes have the highest quality carbon fiber available to optimize their weight, stiffness and durability. Carbon Series bikes have a modified carbon fiber layup. So they have the same stiffness and durability, but they weigh more.
-
What's Switch Infinity technology?
The suspension has a patented translating pivot that switches directions as the bike moves through its travel. This provides anti-squat characteristics for superior pedaling performance. It also maintains re responsive suspension characteristics throughout the travel.
-
Does Switch Infinity require any maintenance?
It has external grease ports to lube the bushings and seals. Re-grease it after 40 hours of riding. You should also clean off any excess dust and dirt throughout the week.
-
Does this bike have ISCG mounts?
Yes, integrated ISCG '05 mounts. It works best with low-profile modern guides. Some older models with larger upper guides might not fit. You should always do a fit-check with a specific chainguide to see what works.
-
What travel fork is this bike made to use?
130mm fork. You can run up to 150mm. It will slacken the head and seat tube angles and raise the bottom bracket. You can also run a shorter fork. It will steepen the head and seat tube angles and lower the bottom bracket.
-
What's the maximum tire size for this bike?
Up to 2.6" tires. It has great tire clearance but sizes vary by manufacturers, so there's no number that works for all brands.
-
What size rotor fits on the frame?
203mm with a brake adaptor, 180mm without.
-
What type of shock does this bike use?
190x45mm shock. It can be locked out if you desire, but Yeti recommends running it fully open for the best traction and compliance.
-
What type of shock hardware does this bike use?
M8x36mm on the air can side and a custom Yeti reducer on the shaft side.
-
Can I put a coil shock on this bike?
No, it will not fit a coil shock because of sizing constrictions and limited clearance in the link.
-
What's the recommended sag for this bike?
Start with 30% sag or 13.5mm of shock stroke for optimal pedaling efficiency and terrain compliance. Set it at your normal riding weight, gear included. You can go slightly above or below 30% depending on your personal preference.
-
What size seat post and seat collar does this bike use?
31.6mm seat post and 36.4mm seat collar.
-
What's the longest travel dropper I can run on this bike?
It depends on your inseam. You can run any travel as long as you're above the minimum insert mark. Also as long as your tires don't rub on your saddle or your dropper doesn't bottom out in the frame. Yeti runs 125mm drop on XS/SM frames, 150mm drop on MD, and 175mm drop on LG/XL.
-
Can I run a stealth seatpost dropper on this bike?
Yes, it has routing options for stealth only.
-
Can I make this a mullet bike with a 27.5" rear wheel?
It's possible but not recommended. It would slacken the head tube angle and seat tube angle and lower the BB too much. If those changes suit your ride style, then go for it.
-
Can I replace or modify any Yeti frame parts?
You should only replace them with genuine Yeti parts. Yeti can't qualify and ensure other products are safe to use on its frames. If you use parts from other brands, all warranties will be voided, and you assume full liability.
-
Can I change or upgrade the spec components?
Some parts from Fox, Shimano, SRAM and other brands are standardized. Check with a mechanic to make sure your parts are the correct standard. And make sure they're correctly and securely mounted to the bike without any interference.
-
Can I fit a water bottle in the front triangle?
Yes, it fits a standard-sized water bottle in the front triangle with a piggy-back shock. Use a side-entry cage for easy access.
-
What's the warranty on this bike?
Lifetime Manufacturer's Warranty.
